Our Story · Toronto, Show Yourself

Built to put designers on the runway.

For twenty-one years, Fashion Art Toronto has been the platform Canadian designers use to launch careers, break conventions, and put their work in front of the audiences and press they need. Over 1,000 runway presentations. Hundreds of brands. Built one designer at a time.

What sits behind every show is real investment: full production, a 600+ deep model roster, professional hair and makeup, lighting, sound, backstage coordination, and the photo team that delivers marketing-ready images the day after. We absorb the production cost so designers can stay focused on the work — the stuff that decides whether a show lands.

This season's theme — Toronto, Show Yourself— is a call to take up space. Canadian fashion isn't emerging anymore, it's arriving. Toronto is a rising global fashion capital, and the platform that reflects its designers has to be built the same way: community-first, radically inclusive, and unapologetic about championing the people doing the work.

How it works

Your space sits inside the main venue traffic — same audience, same press, same energy. Designers who staff their own table consistently outsell hands-off setups by a wide margin.

Bring inventory, a card reader, and a story. We handle the footprint, signage placement, and program inclusion. If you can't be onsite, FAT can run sales on your behalf for a small percentage.

Exhibition Program

Curated work at the intersection of fashion, art, and culture.

Exhibition slots are curated by Fashion Art Toronto. Selected artists receive an artist fee, full program inclusion, and photography coverage. We're looking for installation work, multidisciplinary practice, and pieces that change how the room feels.

How to apply

Apply through our online portal at applications.fashionarttoronto.ca. Include your portfolio, a short statement of work, materials, scale, install needs, and any past exhibition history.

Selected artists are notified directly. Fee, footprint, and final scope are discussed on acceptance — there is no application fee, and exhibition is not pay-to-play.

The Offsite Program

Take the runway out of the venue.

FAT's Offsite program puts solo presentations in some of Toronto's most iconic cultural spaces — historic flagships, distillery courtyards, museums, hotels, and venues you can't book yourself. It's a different format from a main-venue solo: longer runtime, bigger collection, dedicated guest list, and a venue that becomes part of the show.

Past offsite venues have included the ROM, Bata Shoe Museum, The Bentway, Distillery District, Hudson's Bay flagship, and the Textile Museum of Canada. Specific venues rotate by season — final assignment is made on acceptance.

Considering an offsite showcase?

Offsite shows are a different beast than the main venue — bigger collection, longer runtime, and venue-specific logistics. Here's what to weigh before applying.

Format
Solo show at a unique offsite venue selected by FAT. Dedicated showtime on the official Fashion Week schedule. 25–60 looks — bigger than a standard solo.
Investment
$6,500 + HST. Includes venue, lighting, sound, models, HMUA, backstage coordination, full photography, 6 All-Access Passes, and a 30-person guest list.
Timeline
Full balance due in advance of the festival. Hair & makeup direction, music, and visuals all have firm submission deadlines — exact dates shared at acceptance.
Logistics
Strict load-in / load-out times enforced by the venue. Access for set-up and rehearsals communicated in a separate production schedule. Designer manages their own representation on-site.
Audience
Offsite passes grant access to all season + offsite shows. Designed for headline-worthy collections ready to be the moment, not part of the program.
Apply
Apply through our online portal at applications.fashionarttoronto.ca. Include your brief, look count, and venue preference if any.
Policies & Participation

What you're signing up for.

Every package — runway, retail, FASHN DISRPTR, model — comes with a short list of expectations and what FAT delivers in return. Switch tabs for the path you're on.

00Building your show

What to focus on · what to avoid

Do this
  • Build an amazing, cohesive collection — every look should pull toward one idea, not feel like a sample reel
  • Make a mood board — colour, references, silhouette, attitude
  • Plan the accessories, footwear, and finishing details — they sell the look on the runway
  • Work with a stylist — they catch what you can't see and elevate the final presentation
  • Plan your vision and narrative — the concept, the direction, the world the collection lives in
  • Submit a full body of work or proposal — look count and cohesion both matter
  • Realize your concept well before show day — preparation is the show
Don't do this
  • No weapons or replica weapons of any kind
  • No open flame, pyrotechnics, smoke, or fog (unless provided and controlled by the organizer)
  • No hazardous chemicals or compressed-gas cylinders (standard hair/makeup aerosols excepted)
  • No live animals without prior written approval
  • No loose powders or liquids that could damage the venue or create slip hazards
  • Don't expect FAT staff to manage your show — backstage is a shared resource that supports many designers
  • Don't leave property behind — items not collected after your show are considered abandoned
  • Don't show within 100km, 30 days before or after your FAT slot — exclusivity clause applies

01What's included

Production, models, photography

Every runway fee covers venue, lighting, sound, professional hair and makeup, backstage coordination, scheduling, social and website promotion, and the full photography package — backstage, close-ups, alternate angles, and complete runway shots.

02Model options

Three paths · welfare expected

  • Bring your own. Models must still be on-boarded to the FAT system.
  • FAT roster. Pull from our pre-cast roster — pay $50 directly to each model before show day.
  • Agency models. Hired through an external agency at their rates; you handle booking and payment.
Model welfare. All models must be treated with respect and professionalism. Designers organize fittings within the timeframes FAT provides.

03Music & visuals

Submission requirements

All show music and screen visuals are due in advance of show week — exact deadline shared at acceptance. Music must be a single, fully mixed and mastered .wav file in the correct order. Video accepted as .mov / .mp4, 1080 or 4K, 16:9. Total runway music must exceed 1.25 minutes per model. Music or dance performance proposals require approval. FAT does not edit or mix files on your behalf.

04HMUA

Provided · with creative direction

FAT provides a professional HMUA team. Submit your look book or creative direction by the HMUA inspiration deadline so the team can prepare. Specialty materials (extensions, specialty lashes, etc.) are designer-supplied and require approval from the HMUA directors.

05Promotional materials

High-res bio, logo, images — credits mandatory

On signing, designers provide a high-resolution bio, brand logo, and promotional images. All images must include accurate credits and social tags for every contributing artist (photographers, models, etc.). Designers assume full legal responsibility for the accuracy of those credits.

06Social media

Three posts minimum

Post a minimum of three times announcing participation with a direct link to event tickets. Tag @fashionarttoronto and use the official Fashion Art Toronto hashtag for the season.

07Photography rights

Media release

FAT will capture images of your collection, your models, and your show. Showing with us gives us the ability to promote your collection across our content.

08Deposit

Non-refundable · deferral available

Deposits are not refundable. There is always the option to defer your acceptance into a season by two seasons maximum.

09Backstage operations

You manage your show

FAT's backstage team supports many designers across each day — they assist, but they do not primary-manage your show. You and your designated representative are responsible for managing the run, getting models into final position, securing your collection, and clearing your space immediately after the show. Items left behind are considered abandoned.

10Insurance & liability

Designer is responsible for their property

Designers are advised to carry their own property insurance and Commercial General Liability coverage. FAT is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to garments, accessories, or equipment at any point during the festival.

11Code of conduct

Respectful, professional, on and off stage

Designers and their entire team — assistants, staff, affiliated personnel — agree to conduct themselves professionally before, during, and after the festival. Harassment, bullying, abuse, and disparaging digital communications are grounds for immediate removal from the festival without refund and disqualification from future events.

12Prohibited materials

Safety on the runway

For the safety of all participants: no weapons or replica weapons, no open flame or pyrotechnics, no hazardous chemicals, no compressed gas cylinders (standard hair/makeup aerosols excepted), no live animals without prior written approval, and no loose powders or liquids that could damage the venue or create slip hazards.
